Bale

 

Bale is an ancient peaceful town surrounded by beautiful nature and clear blue sea, 10 km far from Rovinj. Its origin stems from roman times and beyond, for it wasit have been the site of some prehistoric strongholds called Castellieri.
The remains of old houses, bronze coins and other findings prove, with certainty, that Balle – Valle was the a Roman stronghold Castrum Vallis, erected by Caius Pulcrus in order to protect the salt-pan road, leading from Pula to Parenzo, from the frequent attacks of the population from the hinterland. Since then, Bale has evolved into a lovely place for a quiet holiday getaway offering accommodation including private houses, rooms and apartments, campsites and taverns.
The architecture in Bale is a mixture of old and new. Apartments, rooms and accommodation in Bale can be found right in the heart of this medieval town. Bale also has two campsites near the sea.
Along the narrow streets of Bale, guests can find a number of taverns where they can get a taste of wonderful Istrian cuisine. Accompanying the accommodations and taverns, Bale also has a post office, medical clinic, exchange service, several cafes, bars and markets.
As a tradition, on the first Saturday of August, a festivity known as „Baljanska Noc“(Balle night) takes place including live music, dancing, folklore performances as well as homemade cuisine.
