Kotor è un vecchio centro marittimo e culturale sulla costa del Montenegro.
Per secoli e' stato l'incrocio delle vie mercantili, delle culture e delle tradizioni di tutti i popoli vicini. La vecchia citta' di Kotor è una delle poche che ha conservato cosi' bene le vie cittadine, dal medioevo fino ai giorni nostri. Possiamo ancora incontrare: vecchi edifici sacrali, strade strette, piazze e vecchi palazzi patrizi, che hanno contribuito a far entrare Kotor nell` elenco dell'UNESCO come bene mondiale, naturale e culturale. Kotor è circondato da possenti mura lunghe 4,5 km, alte 20 m e larghe 15 m, che nessun terremoto ha potuto abbattere. La porta piu' antica della citta', delle tre ancora esistenti, e' quella a sud che e' stata parzialmente costruita nel IX sec. La porta a nord e quella piu' grande furono costruite in stile rinascimentale durante la prima meta' del XVI sec.
A febbraio, ogni anno, a Kotor si svolge carnevale che si trasferisce durante la notte sulle strade e finisce all'alba tra divertimenti, balli e canti.
