On the north coast of the island of Hvar, situated in the centre of the island, surrounded by pine trees and beautiful beaches, is located Jelsa.

The population deals with wine vine growth, agriculture, olive growing, fishing and ship building, and they also have a long history of the touristy and sailing tradition.

A rich touristy tradition dates since the ancient roman times and the medieval period. A proof to that are the rustic villas and rural possessions in the neighbourhood. In the 1911 was built the first Hotel in Jelsa - Jadran, while in the 1913 was published the first tourist guide of Jelsa.
