Ski en Madonna di Campiglio

Madonna di Campiglio, the pearl od the Brenta Dolomites - Trentino , discreet and elegant town, settled in a valley between the Brenta Dolomites and the Adamello-Presanella glaciers, at an altitude of 1550 m.a.s.l. The son of Emperor Franz Joseph turned the village into an important tourist destination that has become known all over Europe and the world.

Today, Madonna di Campuglio has a first-class tourist and sports offer. A wide selection of entertainment and nightlife includes cinemas, restaurants, cafes and discos... Tennis, squash, bowling and swimming facilities enable indoor recreation, while you can engage in skating, horseback riding, cross-country skiing and paragliding outdoors.

In winter it is possible to ski over countless kilometers of runs, up to an altitude of 2600m and with differnet degrees of difficulty. Today the ski area can boast 57 lifts and 150km of ski runs, 40km of nordic skiing...

It is famousfor it's high life, but just a short way out of town you will find a rounf of lakes, valleys, streams... The Cross-Country Ski Centre offers you 15 Km of tracks of different types, but you can also skate on the town centre frozen lake.

Alternatively, you can lazily sit on a sleddog or get in the air flying on the wings of a paraglider. For those who just wish to go for a peaceful and silent walk in the woods, unencumbered with "mountain equipment" there are specially prepared paths around Madonna di Campiglio.

The Carè Alto peak (3463 m.) dominates the San Valentino and the Borzago valleys. The Val Genova offers unequalled natural gems, like the famous Nardis and Lares waterfalls.

The Val Nambrone on the side of the Presanella winds a narrow and wild course up to the wonderful Cornisello lakes.

On the side of the valley facing the bell-tower peaks of the Brenta Dolomites we find the Vallesinella with its two unusually striking waterfalls, the quiet and friendly Val Brenta, and Val Agola with its lake of the same name.

Edelweiss is found in these valleys along with other extremely rare and intensely perfumed flowers in pure colours.

The goods on sale are unusual and imaginative: from the craft shops selling woodwork, chocolate, duvets, artistically decorated furniture and stoves...

You can then take an aperitif in a bar followed by an ride in a snow-cat up to a mountain hut for dinner, and round off the night in one of the famous discothèques.

The gastronomy is traditionally characterized by wholesome cooking based on natural local products served in refined restaurants and cosy  "stube" cellars.

Madonna di Campiglio is a relatively small but pretty town with a modern feel, which offers splendid views at altitude, worth a visit.
