Between Split and Sibenik, surrounded by seven islands, located on a peninsula that once were island, is situated Primosten.

It is one of the most attractive destinations on the Adriatic coast with a typical picturesque look of a fishing town. Its history under the name of Primosten began in the year 1564 when it mentioned in some documents, befor this years it was known under the name of Capusta Cista. Primosten was an island in the beginning. The town walls with towers were built to protect the town from the Turkish invasion while a sliding bridge enabled the connection with the main land. After that was built a pier and Primosten became a peninsula. The name Primosten is connected exactly with the construction of the embankment, namely the name of the town was given according to the Croatian verb "primostoti" which means built a bridge.

Constructed on a muonty peninsula, Primosten kept all the architectonic proprieties of a medieval Mediterranean fishing town. The church of St. George dominate above the city on the highest spot of the hill, and it was built in 1485 and reconstructed in 1760 , and in its proximity there is a local graveyard. From the top there is an amazing view on the whole city and on the open sea. Except the main church there is a need to mention the church of the Our Lady of charity built in 1553, and the church of St. Roch from the 1680. The old town has many little streets and tight stone houses which are a typical characteristic of the architecture in most the littoral towns.

The white gravel and rocky beaches, clean sea and the greenness of the nature are making a perfect natural complex in which you can enjoy as long as you like. For those who like sports Primosten offers various possibility of recreation: yachting, diving, tennis, table tennis, bowling, and beach volley.

You can find accommodation on the peninsula Rudaca, at the north from Primosten, where are located hotels with their related sport contents, while on the south part, under the hill of Kremik, is situated a hotel accommodation for naturists. The known naturist beach is located on the island of Smokvica. Beside the hotel Primosten offers accommodation in private houses and a camping. On the south are also situated marinas Lucica and Kremik, namely Primosten is one of the favourite spots of the yachtmans where they stop on their journeys along the Adriatic coast.

From the marina the view reaches the near slopes where are situated the stone cells of vineyards of the known red vine sort - Babic. A visit to the vineyards is a special experience. Those vineyards rapresent a tribute to the human work and their photo is held on the lobby of the edifice of the United Nations.

Along the red vine Babic, the known gastronomic speciality of Primosten is a lobster prepared in a Primosten way which you can order in one of the numerous restaurants and taverns.

Even if the habitants of Primosten are oriented on tourism they still cherish the traditional arts connected with the sea and land.

The smelly, crystal clear and pure sea, the shadow of the pine trees, the sunny beaches and the song of the cicadas are natural potentials of Primosten, and it's on you to come and enjoy in them.
