Barban je slikovito mestece nad dolino reke Raše, ob cesti od Pulja proti Labinu. Barban je bilo srednjeveško utrjeno naselje, ki je pripadalo Pazinski grofiji, od XVI. stoletja pa je bilo v posesti Benetk. Beneška oblast ga je leta 1535 na dražbi prodala družini Loredan. Sredi mesta je stal kastel, katerega severni del je bil v začetku XVIII. stoletja prenamjenjen v veliko enoladijsko župno cerkev sv. Nikolaja. Zvonik cerkve je dozidan na srednjeveški stolp. Palača Loredan je nasatala leta 1906 s prezidavo vzhodnega dela kastela. Odlikuje je enostavno pročelje, na zadnji strani pa je v prvem nadstropju prostrano preddvorje. Ohranjeno je dvoje mestnih vrat iz XVIII. stoletja. Tako imenovana "Vela" (velika) vrata vodijo na mestni trg, Mala vrata pa se odpirajo proti ulici z magistratom in stolpom z uro iz XVI. stoletja. Zanimiva je tudi majhna bratovščinska cerkev sv. Antona opata pred velikimi vrati, v kateri hranijo ostanke gotskih fresk iz XV. stoletja.
