Pisino (Pazin) si trova nella parte centrale della penisola istriana. È sede amministrativa della Regione Istria (Istarska Zupanija) e dell' autogoverno locale con stato di Cittá. Per la sua importanza e per la sua collocazione, ancora nel XIX secolo è stato definito «cuore dell`Istria».
Il castello di Pisino oggi è la più bella e la miglior conservata fortezza in Istria, dove hanno sede il Museo etnografico dell`Istria e il Museo della Città di Pisino. La fortezza pisinese con la foiba profonda 130 metri, ha ispirato lo scrittore francese Jules Verne, che ha chiuso Mathias Sandorf, il protagonista dell`omonimo romanzo nel castello pisinese, lasciandolo fuggire dalla foiba di Pasino nel sotterraneo. La foiba di Pisino e' un paesaggio protetto fin dal 1964. E' un fenomeno idro-morfologico, sotto le cui rocce c`è la fonte del fiume Foiba (Pazincica). Dopo lunghe e ripetute piogge, su questo posto si forma un lago lungo alcuni chilometri, cosi che Pisino riceve una forma di penisola. L`acqua degli abissi di Pisino giunge fino alle sorgenti del fiume Arsia nel Canale di Lemme.
Pisino è oggi la città della gioventù, con una grande scuola elementare e due scuole medie superiori, con molti club sportivi e culturali, e nella città ogni martedi si tiene la fiera mensile, la maggiore in Istria. A Pisino nel 1899 è stato inaugurato il Primo ginnasio croato in Istria.
