Lovran (Laurana) si trova sulla Riviera di Abbazia, pur circondata da boschi di quercia e castagni, deve il suo nome ai boschi di alloro che riempiono ogni angolo della città e insieme a palme e siepi fiorite ne caratterizzano la vegetazione.
Lovran e' oggi uninteressante centro di cura e riabilitazione, soprattutto per le malattie ortopediche e per quelle cardiovascolari. Le sue qualità curative e climatiche, erano molto apprezzate anche un centinaio di anni fa, quando, dopo Abbazia, anche Lovran ha iniziato a svilupparsi come centro turistico. Autocampeggi si trovano nella vicina Medea (Medeja) e ad Icici. Una manifestazione tipica di Lovran è la regata nautica internazionale, che si svolge a novembre. Sul Monte Maggiore crescono i castagni, i cui saporiti frutti, i maruni di Lovran, sono una delizia gastronomica autunnale, specifica per questa parte dell`Istria.
La parte più importante della città di Lovran è il vecchio nucleo, una volta circondato dalle mura, delle quali oggi sono rimaste solamente la torre e la porta cittadina Stubica, davanti alla quale si trovava il ponte levatoio. La chiesa parrocchiale di San Giorgio è costruita in stile gotico nel XIV secolo e il soffito a rete è stato fatto nel 1470.
